liminals.space turns your own photos of real, everyday places into personal backrooms-style
liminal-space images. Your childhood bedroom, school hallway, old mall, rebuilt as their eerie, half-remembered
version. These are the questions people ask most before they start.

What is liminals.space?
A web app that takes your own photos of places you know (a childhood bedroom, a school hallway,
an old mall, a hospital waiting room) and rebuilds each one as its eerie, empty, backrooms-style
liminal-space version. The AI keeps your actual layout and lighting, so the result is unmistakably
your place, not a generic AI hallway. You also get a 3D step-inside viewer,
a VHS-style video, and a downloadable keepsake. No account, no subscription,
and your photos are never stored. See how it works for the
full process.
How much does it cost?
Your first 2 rooms are always free in lower resolution. A one-time payment
(processed securely via Paddle) unlocks the rest of your rooms in full quality plus the
3D viewer, VHS video, and keepsake download. No subscription. No account. You pay once, you get
everything from that session. An optional higher tier removes watermarks and music from the video
for clean posting.
What exactly is free?
The first 2 rooms you generate are delivered free, in lower resolution, with a watermark. That
is enough to see whether the AI genuinely reads your place before you decide to unlock
the rest. If the result looks right, unlock everything with the one-time payment. If it does not,
you have lost nothing.
Do you store my photos?
No. Your photos are processed once to generate your images and then deleted immediately. Nothing
is saved to any database. No one else ever sees your rooms. liminals.space holds no copy of your
original uploads or the generated images after your session ends. Everything lives in your browser
until you choose to download it.
Do I need to be in the photos?
No, and people-free shots work better. The room itself is the subject. Empty frames let the AI
read the architecture, textures, and light without working around faces or figures. Recent photos
are completely fine; the tool handles the eerie, timeless quality on its own.
How many photos do I need, and what formats are accepted?
You need at least 4 photos and can upload up to 6. Multiple angles of the same place produce
richer, more consistent results. Standard formats (JPEG, PNG, WebP) are all accepted. Phone
camera shots are fine. You do not need professional photography or any special gear.
What do I get when I pay?
The one-time payment unlocks:
All remaining rooms in full resolution, watermark-free
The 3D step-inside viewer: walk through one room in your browser
A VHS-style nostalgia video drifting through your generated space
A downloadable keepsake (PDF and ZIP containing everything)
An optional higher tier also delivers a clean video (no overlaid music, no watermark) suitable
for posting directly to social platforms.
What is the 3D step-inside viewer?
It wraps one of your generated rooms into a navigable 3D environment that runs directly in the
browser. No app to download, no headset needed. You move through the space and look around the
way you might half-remember doing in a dream. It is the closest thing to actually standing back
inside the place.
What is the VHS video?
A short clip that drifts through your generated rooms with a VHS-era visual treatment: scan lines,
colour bleed, that early-90s tape degradation that makes old home footage feel both warm and
unsettling at the same time. It is included in your keepsake download. The optional higher tier
delivers a clean version without overlaid music or watermark, so you can post it as-is or
add your own audio.
Which places work best?
Anywhere human absence is the point: childhood bedrooms,
school hallways after the last bell, old malls, hospital waiting rooms, indoor pools, parking
garages, empty offices. Anywhere you spent time that now feels slightly wrong when you try to
picture it. The more specific and personal the place, the more the result lands. Generic-looking
rooms still work (the AI finds the uncanny in them) but the places you actually remember hit
harder.
Is liminals.space affiliated with the backrooms movie or A24?
No. liminals.space is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to A24, any film, or any
creator associated with "The Backrooms." The word "backrooms" describes a broad, community-created
liminal-space aesthetic and is used here in that descriptive sense only.
How do I get a refund or contact you?

description of the issue. We will sort it out.
